Arepas

This post is dedicated to my little sister in Houston.
For this dish, you will need:

1 cup of Doñarepa corn meal
1 cup of hot water
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper



Step 1: pour 1 cup of corn meal into a bowl

Step 2: add salt and pepper

Step 3: slowly add water 1/3 cup at a time

Step 4: after each third cup of water is added, stir mixture with a fork


Step 5: continue to stir until all the water has been absorbed

Step 6: cover and let rest for 3 minutes

Step 7: form into small patties

Step 8: cook in a non-stick pan 
or well-seasoned iron skillet sprayed with cooking spray (pictured above)
over medium heat

Step 9: cook each side for 3-4 minutes
